The Mission of the Racine County Human Services Department is to foster healthy, self-reliant individuals and families. We are committed to supporting a sustainable community using methods that:
- Promote independence
- Strengthen Families
- Encourage Healthy Behavior
- Provide services of value to taxpayers
- Protect vulnerable children, adults and families
In order to accomplish our Mission, the Human Services Department provides a host of prevention and treatment programs. These programs strive to make available the most cost-effective services which will help attain a healthy and self-sufficient life. Many programs are geared toward specific populations such as adults, abused/neglected children or persons with disabilities. Some are court-ordered services and others are more inclusive, supporting individuals’ goals for educational or vocational achievement.
The services offered by the Human Services Department are dynamic. That is, as our citizens’ needs change, we attempt to modify existing programs or create and implement new ones within the existing budget constraints. Federal, State and private grants are an important funding mechanism for the Human Services Department. More than 80% of the operating budget comes from non-tax levy sources. Many of the services are provided through contracts with local agencies which further strengthens our community.
Jonathan Delagrave, Human Services Director, is responsible for the overall operation of the Department while Division Managers have more limited areas of responsibility.
