This program provides staff to supervise visits between parent(s) and their child/children who are living in out-of- home placements for reasons related to child safety.  Supervised Visitation is not an alternative for custody issues related to Family Court orders.

Supervision staff are responsible for monitoring visits between children and their parents to ensure that visits are in accordance with visitation restrictions specified in court orders and in instructions from the assigned RCHSD Case Manager.

During those visits, staff establish and maintain visitation schedules and behavioral guidelines related to parent-child interaction as well as parent attendance.  When necessary, staff will intervene with parents when a parent’s interaction is not in accordance with court/RCHSD restrictions and established behavioral guidelines.

Supervised Visitation staff may transport children and biological parents to and from visits, as needed.  They will also arrange for an appropriate location for visits which may include a neutral place such as a public building or the parents’ home.  During the visit, the worker will take notes regarding the observations of positive and negative parent/child interactions and provide the RCHSD Case Manager with written reports on each child or parent.

The intent of this program is to support the child-parent relationship and help the family transition to more natural, unsupervised visits.
