Foster Care MonthMinimize

May is National Foster Care Month – a time to make a lasting difference in a child’s life. There are 513,000 American youth in foster care. No matter how much time you have to give, you can do something positive that will “Change a Lifetime” for a young person in foster care.  On behalf of our children in care we thank you for your continued support!

Foster Care IntroductionMinimize

Children are one third of our population and all of our future.

-Select Panel for the Promotion of Child Health, 1981

In keeping with the mission of the Youth and Family Division, the Foster Care Program places children who cannot be safely or adequately cared for in their own homes, with trained foster families that meet the state requirements aimed at protecting the safety, health and welfare of the children.

Children in foster care come from different backgrounds and have different needs.  They range in age from newborn to teenagers.  Some have brothers and sisters that also need placement.  They are of all races and nationalities.  Some have serious medical problems and handicaps.  However, they all like to do the things kids like to do and they all long for families who will love and guide them.

There are approximately 155 foster and treatment foster homes licensed with Racine County and over 150 children in care.  As more children come into care, more families willing to open their hearts and homes are needed.

If you are interested in becoming a foster parent for Racine County children or if you would like to receive additional information about fostering children, e-mail Michelle Rainey.
